These wasps are similar to warriors at first glance-- large and black. The differences turn up after that first glance. Sentinels are smooth, almost glossy. They're larger, too; almost a foot and a half in length. Their bodies are structured somewhat more naturally; their wings are lightweight, though still opaque due to sheer scale. When they're moving nearby, the sound of those wings is felt more than heard.

Personality: Sentinels are highly intelligent. They function best as part of a cohesive unit; employing supporting techniques and functioning in "squads" similar to shinobi teams. Their defining characteristic is loyalty. Their battle philosophy is "overwhelming force."

Age: Sentinels live for an average of twenty years-- they have no old age and almost no childhood. Their longevity provides time to learn a great deal, and even to develop new techniques.

History: Sentinels are a good match for Aritomo in terms of personality-- they think tactically, know how to use elements in combination, and never lose sight of their ultimate goal. It's understandable that he'd become close to them. Sentinels directed a great deal of Ari's training, probably one of the reasons he's so much more comfortable with his wind-element ninjutsu than his earth techniques.

Their application is more physical in origin, lacking the ranged projection that a shinobi could produce, but their controlled movements can precisely mimic any noise. Granted, a thunderclap is a group effort, but even that is indistinguishable from the real thing (barring the cloud of wasps instead of water vapor).

Description: This jutsu draws wind from an area of varying size to strike a target. While the wind does not achieve incredible force, it thoroughly draws the air (rather than creating motion) and leaves a vacuum behind. Generally, either the area air is drawn from or the area it is moved to is highly concentrated. It is possible to tightly control both, but fairly draining.

Description: An academy-level jutsu might not be the flashiest of techniques, but Sentinels were not deceived by that. They've studied the art of exchange to an incredible degree. It's... amazing to see what they can substitute for what, and when.

How would a wasp go about performing a jutsu?

Performing a jutsu is a matter of generating and controlling chakra to produce a specific effect. In other words, in order to perform a jutsu a wasp needs chakra and a way to control it.

Chakra: I'm not sure whether all living things in the narutoverse can produce chakra or not, but summoning animals certainly can. Even E/D ranked summoning toads can use ninjutsu. So, summoning wasps will have chakra.

Control: I think this is where your question is coming from-- "How do they make handsigns?" Remember that not all jutsus require a sequence of two-handed gestures (or even handsigns at all-- even for Academy students, who get the Escape Jutsu). A flying wasp has six appendages free to make assisting gestures, and these techniques are the tiny set that they're practically born to perform (a wasp KKG ). So yes, they can manipulate their chakra.

would a wasp have enough chakra to even perform an academy technique? Incredibly doubtful

It's a solid point, but:
a) there is actually an episode in the anime where Gamakichi uses Water Bullets.
b) My current E-rank wasps wouldn't go toe-to-toe with anything. They're not really combat-oriented. The Sentinel (C rank) is about a foot and a half long, and it still specializes in longer-range and team combat.

EDIT: I am *this* close to quoting Yoda . The bite of an infant viper is actually more dangerous because the venom is more concentrated. I do describe the wasps have have disproportionate chakra networks.

@Pat this is a verry original idea! it's like a aburame trademark but with wasps...why dont you imply him to create a kg with wasps?
