As Kumori stood in the middle of the training area, he had his mind focused on creating a defensive jutsu. With plenty of offensive jutsu, he had never created any defensive jutsu utilizing the unique kekkei genkai of the Kaguya. Kumori set to work thinking of a way to shape the bones in his body to form a protective shield. He was standing there when an Aburame clan member passed, he started to think about them and their bugs when it hit him. An exoskeleton. He then proceeded to focus his chakra into manipulating his bones, something he always does but just in a different manner, but the bones would not position themselves above the skin. So he thought of a way to trick the opponent. If he hid the bone beneath the surface of his skin, it would not be seen and an unsuspecting attacker wouldn’t think twice about attacking him but in reality there would be a solid layer of bone there. Kumori focused his chakra to manipulate the bone structure to move a thin layer of bone under his skin. It worked. The thin layer provided protection against weapons such as kunai and shuriken but easily broke as Kumori struck a part of his arm with a mild lightning jutsu. Kumori refocused his chakra, now adding a more slightly dense exoskeleton, approximately a ½ inch thick. The exoskeleton still protected against normal weaponry and protected against lightning chakra (although it did numb the skin), but when struck by wind on a molecular level the bone easily dissolved. Kumori repeated his experiment again but used an inch thich exoskeleton this time. The layer of bone protected against everything, even his own bones, but he also noted that it consumed a large portion of his chakra, however he did not know about any other elements. Okay he had made a new defensive jutsu, however was it a stationary jutsu or could it be used during movement? To test this out Kumori set out several burst kunai. Then he waited for them to burst. As the first one busted he started to dodge them and while dodging, focused his energy into forming the exoskeleton. He felt his body stiffen and he stopped. Kunai bounced off of his body, but which layer of bone was this? To answer this question he placed his very own hollowed out bone kunai into the burst bags and injected them with lightning and some with wind chakra. As they exploded he then again proceeded to form the exoskeleton, however this time when the wind kunai struck and burst releasing wind chakra it shredded his arm. When the lightning kunai burst, it had no effect. So the layer he formed while moving was the second layer which was approximately ½ inch thick. Feeling lucky he decided to test if he could focus the exoskeleton to a certain place while moving. He repeated his previous test but instead of wind kunai he used regular kunai. The kunai burst and Kumori immediately focused on the spot about to get hit. The lightning kunai pierced his skin but the regular kunai did not. Finally finished with his new defensive jutsu he decided to call it “Bone-pathway art: exoskeleton jutsu”. From this experiment Kumori concluded that:
The inch thick layer could be used at a standstill and protect against most attacks but uses large amounts of chakra, and once you move the jutsu ends.
The ½ inch layer could cover the whole body and be used while moving, but did not protect against most elemental jutsu.
The thinnest layer can be used at a specific place during movement but only blocks ninja tools such as kunai and shuriken.
