Old Friends

Its been awhile since Sumi had the heart to stand in the presence of a long lost friend. The sunset sky glowed with orange light which reflected off of Sumi’s tears. The strange chilly wind blew on his face, as the whistles of grass was all he heard. Standing there alone at the graveyard was harsh for him, he hated that place, but loved it. From the ancient ninja which gave their lives for the sand, to long lost loved ones which are buried with a piece of his heart with them. There Sumi was, standing over a tomb stone engraved with Little Lila on the cover. He always thought that was humorous, but today it seemed dreadful. Lila was Sumi’s childhood friend, who died when he was younger. The memories of Lila kept him moving, on his path of becoming a great ninja. His black cloak stood still in the wind, while a white flower hung from his fingers.

Learning down he smiled at the stone and wiped his tears with a sleeve. “I brought this for you, they were your favorite weren’t they?” he asked while placing the flowers on the ground. Obviously he wouldn’t get a response, but knowing that somewhere she was listening made it better. A long silence soon came as the wind slowly began to fade. His brown hair strands faintly slid down his face as he put his head down. Looking back at the stone the slight chips became more visible as he focused on them. “Your stone, its rotting” he whispered as he placed his hands on the stone. Using his alchemy technique the chips soon faded into each other and the appearance of a spotless angel statue became that of the stone. With its hands out Sumi placed the flowers in her hands and he smiled at the statue. “A new trick I learned, maybe in the next lifetime I would teach you how to do it” he said humorously as he stood back up.

Looking back at the graveyard the endless tombstones which rested on the ground finally struck Sumi as uncomfortable. But he didn’t move, he stood there with a smile on his face. He was proud to be in the presence of the Sand ninja, dead or alive. He stood there motionless in the wind, as he closed his eyes.
