Kiriyama Kohaku, the Vampire of the Mist
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Looks: Kiriyama Kohaku is a slender but imposing man. Standing just under 6 feet tall, he weighs around 160 pounds, by no means a big individual. However, his weight is almost entirely bone, skin, and muscle - his body mass is budgeted about as effectively as it can be, although it may be hard for the untrained eye to see past his slender, almost delicate body to observe the wiry strength concealed within it. His jet black hair is worn long, halfway down his back, occasionally tied in a ponytail. His eyes are a dull, unassuming dark blue, often half-closed in a look of weariness. His mouth is a thin gash across his pale, clean shaven face. On his forehead is branded the mark of the Kiriyama clan.
He wears a worn, grey travelling cloak, with various patches sewn along the back, signs of loving workmanship. The lining, though long faded, used to be interwoven with an elegant silver. Slung over his shoulder is a large bag, containing clothing, food, a tent, and other such necessities. Additionally, it contains his Kirigakure headband, scratch and all. Inside this cloak is a black tunic, lined with golden yellow, extending almost to his feet. Beneath this cloak, he wears a skintight, high collared dark blue shirt, and close-fitting, gray pants. Around his waist is strapped a series of pouches, containing kunai, shuriken, exploding tags, and vials of Kohaku's blood. He wears sandals, his feet wrapped in bandages , and, depending on the day, woolen gloves.
Personality: Kohaku is a quiet, almost shy individual, though he will certainly not hesitate to converse and open up to people he trusts. Bordering on paranoia, Kohaku is extremely difficult to win over as a friend. However, he similarly tries to believe of the best in people, and reserves harsh judgment except for those who prove to him they are not worthy of friendly consideration. He dislikes combat, wherever it can be avoided, but will not hesitate to exchange blows if he feels it necessary.
Above all, however, Kohaku is a pragmatist. He tries to view things as objectively as possible, and acts in the best interests of everyone he can, though admittedly prioritizing his own wants and needs. A survivor and a wanderer, Kiriyama Kohaku places a high value on tenacity, perseverance, and resilience. Moral fortitude is as important to him as physical strength. In a world of darkness, secrets, and violence, it is a refreshing sight to see those who rise above the corruption and absolve themselves of the sins of the world around them. As well, Kohaku has an unquenchable love of reading. When not otherwise occupied, he can usually be found whiling away the hours in a novel.
After leading a life as rugged and hard as his, it is no surprise that Kohaku is somewhat cold and distant at times. He has a tendancy to become lost in thought and memory. Additionally, Kohaku has nightmares - bad ones. But, then again, so do most who survived the era of the Bloody Mist.
The Kiriyama Clan
The Kiriyama Clan was one of the mist's oldest clans, seated in a position of power for an extended period of time. One of the most ruthless and brutal of clans, their bloodthirst was in no way mitigated by their extreme predisposition to violence. Within the clan heirarchy, the leader was chosen in an overly simple way - kill the current head, replace him. When the reign of the 3rd Mizukage came to an end, and with it, many of the abhorrent practices of the Bloody Mist village, the Kiriyama clan grew increasingly resented and feared by the community, a bitter reminder of the old ways. Eventually, the Kiriyama clan fell in with a number of other extremists within the Kirigakure community, who longer for the Bloody Mist village they remembered. However, before any sort of bid for power could be made, the acting Mizukage ordered the growing faction be purged. The majority of the clan was wiped out, save for the women and children. Kohaku was one of those children, and of them, the only male. Their reputation as demonic, incestuous, murderous killers plagues Kohaku to this day.
The Kekkei Genkai:The Kiriyama clan's Kekkei Genkai merges their Chakra network with their circulatory system, and imbues their blood cells with the ability to carry Chakrs throughout their body. Because of this, the Kiriyama clan has learned, through generations, how to manipulate their blood and use Blood Release techniques. As well, if their blood detects foreign cells, they will attempt to destroy them, making the Kiriyama clan particularly resistant to organic poisoning. Lastly, if someone receives a transfusion of Kiriyama blood, their chakra system will become unstable, fluctuating well above and below their normal power level (the exact difference depends on how much blood has been received). As an additional effect of this chakra system fluctuations, the enemy will begin to suffer hallucinations and illusions, of increasing severity, as their chakra system continues to destabilize.

Skill, Item, Ninjutsu Information
Skill Specialty:Main: Ninjutsu
Sub: Taijutsu
Elemental Affinity:Main: Other: Blood Release (Similarly to how Shikamaru has an affinity for Shadow techniques, Mei for Lava, etc.)
Sub: Water Release
Special Characteristics: Kohaku underwent, and survived, the Kirigakure ANBU program. Very, very few can say they survived the experience. Even fewer can say they succeeded. Kohaku can say both.
Items/Weapons:Name: Blood Vial
Appearance: A small glass capsule filled with blood
Rank: C
Special Abilities: The blood contained in the capsule is highly pressurized, allowing it to store up to 500mL of Kohaku's blood.
Origin: Because of Kohaku's fighting style, he is often left with a depleted blood pool, and having a handful of these at the ready is a useful tool. They can be used during combat, if Kohaku can find half a minute of quiet. Kohaku periodically siphons portions of his blood into these canisters, keeping them properly refilled, just in case,
Jutsus:Note: Known, but not included in order to conserve space are all of the basic academy jutsu, those being: Bunshin, Henge, Kawarimi, Waster Walking, Tree Climbing, Explosive Tag Activate, Kai - Release, Nawanuke, and , lastly, Shunshin.
Name: Water Release: Destruction Torrent
Rank: B
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Water
Description: After forming a series of handseals, the user forms a sphere of chakra-imbued water above their right hand. This sphere can be maintained with low chakra upkeep, but provides little in the way of offense or defense, and occupying one of the users hands. However, if the user focuses their chakra into the sphere, a torrential jet of water is unleashed. Kohaku often enhances this attack by lacing it with his blood, drawn to the surface of his palm and mixed with the water.
Name: Water Release: Starch Syrup Capture Feild
Rank: C
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Water
Description: After performing the necessary handseals, the user expells a volume of water from their mouth, which accumulates on the ground in an area of about 20 square meters. This layer of water is extremely sticky, and will ensare and immobilize any body part that touches it. However, it may be walked on using the water-walking technique, but will require more chakra than normal to maintain as little surface-to-surface contact between the shinobi's feet and the surface of the Capture Field.
Name: Water Release: Rising Water Cutter
Rank: B
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Water
Description: After forming handseals, the user stamps one of his feet on the ground, pointing towards his target. From beneath the ground, an extremely powerful jet of water will emerge. The stream travels quickly towards the opponent, but, unfortunately, maintains a mostly linear path. This technique is extremely potent if the target is within a meter or two, strong enough to split boulders, but after about 10, it becomes more of a bludgeoning attack than a cutting attack. After 20 meters, the attack is more or less ineffective.
Name: Water Release: Water Encampment Wall
Rank: B
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Water
Description: after performing the handseals, the user expells a volume of water from his mouth. The water forms into a wall that increases in all dimensions as time passes, and acts as a shield against msot attacks, the user's chakra heightening the already high surface tension of the water.
Name: Water Release: Tortured Mirage Illusion
Rank: A
Type: Ninjutsu/Genjutsu hybrid
Element: Water
Description: This technique uses a combination of the refractive capability of water, and water vapor in the atmosphere to alter how light reaches the eyes of the opponent. The exact power of this illusion depends on the distance the target is from the object (usually Kohaku himself) that is being displaced by the illusion. The farther from the target, the easier it is to perform. Similarly, in a humid environment, this technique becomes easier to perform, due to the increased volume of suspended water.
Name: Blood Release: Blood Cutter
Rank: B
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Blood
Description: As with most Blood Release techniques, no hand seals are performed. Instead, the user grips midway up his forearm, and small globules of blood begin to seep out of the pores above his arm. Eventually, this blood materializes into a thin blade extending around a foot from his fingertips. Using the minerals and the chakra contained in the Kiriyama blood, this blade becomes extremely sharp. If broken, it can reform using additional blood from within Kohaku's circulatory system to replace any that was cast off. Often used in conjunction with Blood Release: Sanguine Talon.
Name: Blood Release: Sanguine Talon
Rank: B
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Blood
Description: This technique forms a long, snaking tendril of blood from the index and middle finger, which acts as a whip. Though not likely to cut through armor, against bare skin, the whip will leave long, deep gashes, and can be used to entangle the opponent's movement. If broken, it can reform using additional blood from within Kohaku's circulatory system to replace any that was cast off. Often used in conjunction with Blood Release: Blood Cutter.
Name: Blood Release: Red Rain
Rank: A
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Blood
Description: After gripping his wrist and extracting blood from his hand, which forms in small spheres at his finger tips, Kohaku can launch these projectiles at his opponents. Though not strong enough to pass through his opponent, these will easily peirce most armor, skin, and de-form back into a liquid once inside the opponent.
Name: Blood Release: Funnel
Rank: A
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Blood
Description: This technique creates thin streams of Kohaku's blood that enter the opponents body through the mouth, ears, eyes, and nose. Its use is two fold. It can be used as a set up for Blood Release: Internal Destruction, and it can be used to locate the recipient opponent. Kohaku's blood is extremely easy for him to detect, so an opponent who has ingested a large degree of it will be extremely easy for Kohaku to locate, and attempts to disguise or hide oneself become increasingly challenging.
Name: Blood Release: Blood Limiter Removel
Rank: A
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Blood
Description: This technique functions on a similar principle to the 8 gates. Normally, only certain amounts of chakra will be able to be pulled from Kohaku's blood. However, using this technique releases that limit, temporarily increasing the power of all his techniques that require chakra, particularly those that use Blood Release. Unfortunately, if Kohaku is careless, he can easily deplete his chakra and potentially severely injure himself.
Name: Blood Release: Internal Destruction
Rank: S
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Blood
Description: After performingThis technique causes any of Kohaku's blood circulating in an enemies system to self-destruct, potentially causing massive internal damage, rupturing blood vessels and causing internal bleeding. However, this also releives the destabilizing effect Kohaku's blood has on the enemy's chakra system. If used when a significant amount of Kohaku's blood has entered the enemies blood stream, this attack will be devastating, and, similarly, if used when only a small amount of Kohaku's blood has been absorbed, it will be relatively easy to shrug off.
Name: Blood Release: Exsanguination
Rank: S
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Blood
Description: Kohaku's final, most desperate attack. A vast quantity of his blood is removed from his body, leaving him only enough to sustain consciousness. This chakra-enhanced blood is entirely under his control, and can be used to shield him from attacks, but more often, is used as a last-ditch offensive effort, surrounding the enemy with a large number of blood spikes and impaling them.
Background Information
ChildhoodKohaku was born to Mitsuko and Zomi Kiriyama. Zomi was a relatively insignificant man in Kiriyama politics, strong enough to survive, but not much else. Mitsuko, on the other hand, was exceptionally gifted for a woman. Traditionally, Kiriyama women were much weaker than their male counterparts. However, Mitsuko was more than capable of giving the majority of the men in the clan a run for their money. Despite theoretically being able to marry into one of the families that typically held leadership of the clan, Mitsuko elected to marry Zomi, who she could control far more easily. Mitsuko's ultimate goal was to give birth to a child who could end the constant bickering of the branches of the Kiriyama lineage and unit the clan under a single name.
Her first child, Shuya, was much like his father - capable, but not exceptional. However, the second child, born 3 years later, Kohaku, was exactly what Mitsuko has been hoping for. Brilliant, he had surpassed his elder brother completely by the age of 6, and was at least his father's equal by the time he was 9. Kohaku was raised on a bitter diet of violence, loneliness, and love. His mother isolated him from the rest of his family, as well as the clan, hoping to keep him innoculated from the poisonous mindset of the rest of the family.
The PurgeUnbeknownst to Mitsuko, the Kiriyama clan had been a part of a conspiracy, the ultimate goal of which was to return the Mist to the darker, more violent ways of the Bloody Mist. Mitsuko cared little for village politics, although she had begun to nurture fantasies about Kohaku ascending to the title of Mizukage one day. This dream was shattered, however, when a platoon of Kirigakure ANBU arrived in the dead of night, and butchered the clan. None but the women and girls were spared, left alive to preserve the Bloodline for the mist, under the assumption that they would be easy to subjugate and control. The exception to this was Kohaku. Mitsuko begged for his life, and wouldn't have been succesful had she not convinced the ANBU that he was useless, and had been an embarassment to the clan that she had kept secret from the other members. This was corroborated by the other members of the family, who, for the most part, had neither seen nor heard of the young boy. The survivors, some two or three dozen, were branded with the clan's mark, and allowed to live.
Kohaku understood, but cared little for this development. Mitsuko had been his only contact with the outside world, and she was permitted to remain with him. He was allowed to, for the first time, live a semi-normal life, Mitsuko being far more comfortable sharing her son with the girls and women of the clan, most of whom shared her views about clan politics. His mother had become the de facto clan head, and he was fast overtaking her in power. Whispers began to circulate amidst the clan that he would become a messiah figure to them, bringing Kiriyama to glory, absolving them of their past crimes. Unfortunately, the Mizukage caught wind of these rumors too.
ChuuninThe Mizukage ordered the Kohaku boy, at this point 11 years old, be separated from his family, and warned Mitsuko against attempting to contact him. Mitsuko's duplicity was quickly forgiven, however, once the Mizukage realized what a prodigy he had acquired, and how wonderfully isolated from the previous Kiriyama clan he had been kept. The boy was inserted into a chuunin exam, and passed spectacularly, catapulting himself to fame within the village. However, the Kiriyama family had many enemies with the mist, who became increasingly discontent with Kohaku's continued and repeated successes. The Mizukage, not wanting to lose his favorite pupil, sent Kohaku on increasingly dangerous missions, assuring those who wanted to see Kohaku perish that he would inevitably die on one of his missions. However, every time Kohaku succeeded, the Mizukage grew increasingly proud of the boy. Kohaku eventually began to regard the Mizukage as a father figure.
ANBUUnfortunately, after a time, these detractors began to exert increasing pressure on the Mizukage, wanting Kohaku to be executed, fearing his seemingly ever-increasing power. The Mizukage eventually capitulated, outwardly. He faked Kohaku's death, and inserted the now 15 year old boy into deep cover ANBU, sending him on various assassination missions.
At this point, Mitsuko managed to re-contact Kohaku, due to Kohaku's increased freedom as ANBU. Mitsuko wanted Kohaku to abandoned the Mizukage and go into hiding with her and the rest of the family. Kohaku refused, after painful consideration, declaring himself loyal to the Mizukage over his mother. Unable to pursuade him to leave the Mizukage, Mitsuko renounced him as her son, declaring him to be an embarrasment and ungrateful. Kohaku, torn by his love for his mother and the Mizukage, continued to perform extremely challenging missions for the Mizukage, until, one day, at the age of 19, he was sent to assassinate a man who had once been one of Konohagakure's greatest shinobi, who had become a burden to the Mizukage. While fighting the man, Kohaku was defeated. While unconscious, the man noticed an extremely well hidden sealing technique that had been imprinted on the boy, placed there by his mother and modified by the Mizukage. Releasing it, Kohaku awoke from what could be said to be the first time. Realizing what he had done, Kohaku was stricken by grief, and realizing what had been done to him, rage.
DefectionKohaku returned to Kirigakure, returning first to his mother. He similarly renounced her as a harlot and harpy, calling her goals selfish and disgusting. Then, he went to the Mizukage, and handed the Mizukage his ANBU mask and gouging his Kirigakure headband in front of him, cursing him for manipulating him. The Mizukage threatened him with death, but Kohaku called his bluff, pointing out that though he couldn't defeat the Mizukage alone, he had only return to the remnants of his clan and the Mizukage would have a civil war on his hands. Frustrated, but trapped, the Mizukage was forced to watch as his once favorite pupil defected from Kirigakure.
Since then, Kohaku has roamed the wilderness, seeking atonement for his sins. He is hunted, one of the most notorious criminals in Kirigakure history, and the Kiriyama name is feared internationally. Known as the Vampire of the Mist, the last full-blooded male Kiriyama is in virtually every bingo book, one of the most prominent targets. However, Kohaku still attempts to find a new alleigance, a new home, within another hidden village where he can be accepted, despite the atrocities commited by his family and by himself.

Kohaku had seen many shabby restaurants in his travels, but few as poorly kept as the one he was currently situated within. He sat alone at ther end of the bar, his soup and water in front of him, relatively untouched. He was more than a little afraid to eat the food in a restaurant with a quarter inch of filth covering every visible surface, even the patrons. Deciding he was better off foraging somewhere, else, Kohaku deposits several coins on the table - one of which rolls off. Kohaku bends over to retreive it, and as he stands up, his tattoo is momentarily visible. Unfortunately, one of the patrons had been staring in his direction, and had noticed it. Kohaku and the man locked eyes for a moment.
This far from Kirigakure, I doubt anyone recognizes that symbol. Turning his back on the man, Kohaku spoke breifly to the bartender.
"You can keep the change. I'm sorry to waste the food, I'm feeling a bit ill." With that, Kohaku strode for the door, exiting into the cool night air, walking along the path towards the next small settlement.
A quarter hour later, Kohaku began to feel as though he was being followed. More a feeling than a rational thought process, Kohaku jumped to the top of a nearby tree, and, in one smooth jump, launched himself backwards, landing elegantly on the path about 50 meters behind where he had been. The whole movement took less than 5 seconds, and Kohaku confirmed what he had suspected - he noted a shape re-attach itself to the trees.
"Hello? Who's there?" Kohaku spoke in a mild voice, not wanting to frighten away his pursuer. The figure detached itself from the trees, a small child, probably no more than 7 years old.
Just a kid? This far out? Kohaku smiled down kindly at the boy, and offered him his hand, which the boy eyes suspiciously.
"I'm sorry. What's your name?" Kohaku's voice is calm and soothing, but it seems to have little impact on the boy, who continues to stare back at Kohaku suspiciously, and finally speaks, in a sullen tone -
"What's yours?" Kohaku considers the question a moment, then, deciding it can do no harm, answers in a friendly voice,
"Kiriyama Kohaku."With a pop and a cloud of smoke, the boy disappears, replaced by the man Kohaku had seen at the restaurant, now wearing a flak jacket and a headband.
"Yeah, thought so." The man taps a small book, which Kiriyama recognizes instantly as a bingo book.
Oh no, no way. Mizukage decided to admit I was still alive? This is going to be awful. Kohaku's thoughts are interrupted as the man speaks again.
"End of the line for you, you murderous bastard."Appologies in advance for the spelling and grammatical errors that I am certain are present.
