Species Name: Illithid
Kekkei Genkai: The Illithid are not a group of people or a blood line, but an entirely different humanoid species The average illithid is somewhere between 5'6 and 6'2, with clammy gray salamander like mucus coated skin. The most notable divergence from humans is in the construction of the head of an illithid. An illithid has glassy black pupilless eyes and an octopus like feeding apparatus. The average illithid has four grabbing tentacles between two and three feet in length with an array of shorter light blue feeding tentacles between two and three inches surrounding their beak like maw. The purpose of this strange feeding apparatus is a part of the natur of what makes Illithids one of the most terrifiying of foes. Illithids have an innate talent for genjutsu, this ability requires though that they constantly feed on certain neural transmitters, or in other words, consume brains. The brains of lower life forms are capable of sustaining an Illithid, but since they gain charka and knowledge from the consumption of sentient beings they often seek out humans as prey. The nature of these beings is in fact so alien that they lack many commonly human attributes. Illithids reproduce asexually by gestating larva in their body which they release at certain points in their life. These larva which look like small four tentacled squid are non-sentient and incapable of using chakra, but can be implanted in a human host. When implanted in a sentient being, ussualyl through the nose, the Illithid larva digs it's way to the brain where it consumes the organ and gleans from it all of the hosts knowledge. Over a period of weeks the larva then releases chemicals in the still living host body changing it to a more subtle form and growing to fill the brain pan in a similar manner to a hermit crab filling a shell. After a period of ten years, the Illithid larva and the host body become integrated inextricably and even an autopsy would reveal the larva to simply be the brain of a humanoid creature with strange clammy skin. The nature of their reproduction makes Illithids incapable of using many normal forms of chakra, they are completely cut off from the elements and some claim that this is a curse placed on them by disgusted gods that loathe their existence.
Essential abilities: Illithids are able to sense beings by the electrochemical auras they create around them, some might call this ability phyic but any Illithid philosopher will insist that is simply a derivative of their species' naturally superior hyperspectral vision, of course an Illithid philosopher will subsequent to giving this explanation eat your brain so the exact mechanics of this ability are still somewhat murky to most. For an illithid to do more than simply detect sentience they must learn special techniques.

Description: The most basic ability of an Illithid this technique reflects an understanding of their sixth sense. An illithid with this abiltiy can see the electrical discharge associated with the activation of nerves. This vision manifests itself as a pattern of glowing that clings to the skin of most beings and forms a chrona around the hub of their central nervous hub. A human would have a yellow pulsating glow that expands with chakra use and focuses into a halo around their head. Most Illthids consider this particular glow to be quite pleasing although admit that prolonged exposure makes them feel hungry.

Description: In this technique, an illthid reaches out with all four of it's tentacles and grabs a closeby opponets face and drags them in close for a bone crunching head bite that allows them to suck out the targets brain juices like the marvelously tasty stew it is.

Description: The most basic of Illithid psi powers the mind blast is as much a primitive hunting tool as a jutsu. Unlike normal techniques this one does not require any hand seals and instead is triggered by the Illithid curling his tentacles and then realsing a blast of chakra that disrupts a targets aura. This blast causes a brief moment of intense pain that can stun small animals and cause humans to flinch as every nerve in there body fires. This pain is seldom sufficient to cause lasting harm to a shinobi but since it can not be countered by Kai, it is often used as a means of distracting an opponent while the illithid uses a more complex genjutsu. The blast has a range of thirty meters.

Description: Most illithids are born with the ability to access the memories of their host as they consume their brains. More experianced adult Illithids know that they can also access the memories of any person they eat. By compleatly consuming a human brain an illithid can choose to gain access to the memories of the person. This allows them to learn secret codes and even secret jutsu simply by feasting. The only disadvantage to this is that it will only work if the brain is still alive when consumption begins, i.e the human target is still alive and the Illithid is killing them by extracting their brains.

Description: Sometimes Illithids need to keep handy brains alive and healthy until dinner. This technique is used by more advanced members of the species. By modfiying the mindblast the Illithid can emit a constant stream of painful energy that dulls the senses and higher reasoning functions of humans within twenty meters of the Illithid. This ability can with prolonged exposure (12 posts) cause a person to lose most of their sense of self esteem and react to outside commands with out thought. Illithids mostly use this ability to keep human slaves docile and obident even as they are ordered to offer themselves as food for their abberent overlords.

Description: The illithid species needs to reproduce, the means of doing so is rather singular. Illithids being asexual have the ability to generate fertilized eggs in a specialized organ in their body. When necessary they can then release these eggs into a body of water where they will mature into larva over the course of a few days. The Illithid larva are roughly six inch long half inch wide quad tentacled squids. When a Larva comes into contact with human flesh it will immediately bite and gouge it's way into the body working it's way to the brain where it will consume al available brain matter except the stem and then over a period of weeks take control of the host body until it finishes it's development into a mature illithid.

Description: At the height of a illithid's development and aging it matures into a new form. In this new form it gains two new tentacles each roughly 4 and a half feet in length and loses parts of it's dependency on it's current host body. The fully mature Illithid can now exist for brief periods of time (4 posts) with out the benifit of water or a host body. The mature Illithid form is a 12 pound squid that can support itself with it's new tentacles and move quickly across land. Mature illithid's are highly vulnerable to damage without a host body, but they can take a new host if one is within range and they can burrow past the skull. If a new host has a kkg the illithid can choose to keep the kkg after taking control of the body so long as the kkg does not relate to control of an element.
History: The origin of the Illithid race is shrouded in mystery, mostly living in the deepest reaches of the oceans in domed cities the Illithid prefer to keep their peace with out the need to interact with lesser races. Generally the only interaction mankind and the Illithid have is Illithid hunting parties capturing groups of human for feed stock and use as slaves. Illitithids have long been considered a nuisance by the mizukage, but to this date all attempts to send shinobi to track their hunting teams to their underwater cities has ended in disaster.
